Starting 1st January 2025, Vanguard will adopt the ZUGFeRD format for invoices in Germany. This shift aligns with the e-invoicing mandate, streamlining the invoicing process for greater efficiency, security, and sustainability. ZUGFeRD integrates PDF and XML data, reducing manual handling and enabling automated invoice processing.

What is ZUGFeRD?

ZUGFeRD, which stands for the “Central User Guide of the Forum for Electronic Invoices Germany,” is a cross-industry format for exchanging electronic invoice data. It combines a human-readable PDF with machine-readable XML data, facilitating both manual invoice processing and seamless, error-free integration into ERP and accounting systems for automated handling.

Why is this change being made?

The adoption of ZUGFeRD aligns with Germany’s legal requirements for standardized digital invoicing. This transition not only ensures compliance but also enhances both internal and external processes. By using ZUGFeRD, we can minimize manual steps, reduce costs, and lower the risk of errors. Additionally, eliminating paper invoices supports our commitment to sustainability.

Applicable only in Germany

Please note that this change to the ZUGFeRD format applies exclusively to our business operations in Germany. For our international partners, current invoicing processes will remain unchanged.
